Privacy Protection

The Rijeka School of Croatian Studies (RKŠ) operates within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Rijeka (OIB: 70505505759) and respects privacy and protects personal data in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data (General Data Protection Regulation – GDPR), the Croatian Law on the Implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (Official Gazette 42/2018), and the Faculty’s Privacy Policy. RKŠ controls all personal data submitted to us and is responsible for storing and processing such data in a fair, lawful, secure, and transparent manner.

A personal data item is any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person (e.g., name and surname, address, phone number, email address, etc.).

Data Categories and Sources

Access to the RKŠ website is open and does not require registration to view the available content. Data collected through the website, particularly via contact forms, include: name and surname, email address, and any other personal data the user may voluntarily provide in the form, or that may be collected automatically via cookies or similar technologies. Data submitted through the form is accessible only to RKŠ employees.

Purposes and Legal Basis for Processing

Providing personal data is voluntary. We do not request more information than necessary to respond to your inquiry. We process personal data only to the extent required for specific, explicit, and legitimate purposes:

  • Responding to inquiries – legal basis: our legitimate interest in providing information and maintaining communication (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) or consent (Art. 6(1)(a)).
  • Contractual relations and cooperation (offers, contracts, delivery) – performance of a contract or steps taken prior to entering into a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)).
  • Accounting and legal obligations – legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)).
  • Website traffic statistics and analytics – consent (Art. 6(1)(a)); essential cookies are based on legitimate interest in ensuring website functionality.

Retention Period

Collected data is retained only until the purpose for which it was collected is fulfilled, or for the duration of cooperation for which the data is required.

Your Rights

You may request information about the personal data we hold at any time.

You also have the right to request access, correction, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and to object to processing based on legitimate interest.

If processing is based on consent, you may withdraw your consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of the processing carried out before the withdrawal.

Data Security, Recipients, and Processors

RKŠ respects the privacy of all individuals and processes personal data lawfully. Data is stored either electronically or in paper form, with technical, personnel, and organizational measures in place to protect against unauthorized access.

We do not share personal data submitted to us with third parties.

Despite the measures taken to prevent unauthorized disclosure, there is a possibility that some personal data may be inadvertently disclosed in violation of this Privacy Policy. Transfers Outside the EEA

In case of transfers to third countries, we rely on adequacy decisions or Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and apply additional safeguards where necessary.

In the event of a personal data breach, we act in accordance with Articles 33 and 34 of the GDPR, including notifying AZOP and data subjects when conditions are met.
