Since 2008, the Rijeka School of Croatian Studies has been operating within the Department of Croatian Studies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Rijeka, as a center for teaching Croatian as a second, foreign, and heritage language. The Rijeka School of Croatian Studies promotes the knowledge of the Croatian language, literature, and culture in an international context. It develops modern methods for teaching Croatian as a second or foreign language, encourages mobility, and organizes proficiency exams in Croatian as a second or foreign language. Our goals also include creating standardized exam materials and teaching manuals, organizing academic and professional conferences, and launching professional, teaching, translation, and other projects aimed at promoting the Croatian language, literature, and culture abroad. The School collaborates with institutions in Croatia and abroad that share the same objectives, with Croatian language lecturers at foreign universities and research institutes, as well as with both domestic and international scholars. It also maintains strong ties with the Croatian diaspora.
